Bend, Oregon is somewhere I can see myself living for some serious outdoor paradise. Mountain biking, hiking, fishing, skiing, and not to mention the ocean is only a couple hours away! We visited Mount Bachelor during the "big wave" competition where they had some professional surfers come snowboard. They built the run as if the snow were rolling waves, and it was pretty funny to watch the surfers snowboard like surfers.

After watching the competition we headed to the Deschutes River for some fishing. I don't have a license in Oregon, so I explored the river bank with Van on my back while my husband fished. Van loves his tenkara rod--it never leaves his hand! Tenkara Rod Co's recently came out with a new smaller rod, the Cascade, expanding to 8' and weighing only 2 ounces. Super light and perfect for smaller streams or tight spots in the river. We also use it to teach Van how to fish and at 18 months old he is already learning how to cast!
