Hello Traveling Triplets readers!

We've moved from Traveling Triplets to Hope You Like Fresh AirAfter over six years of blogging as the Traveling Triplets, we decided it was time for a change. We hope you'll stick around and continue to follow along with us as we share our new ideas and experiences with you! This change was inspired by little more than a desire to expand our community beyond our own sisterhood and to the incredible avid sisterhood of outdoor women and fellow-adventurers doing amazing things every day.
What started six years ago at a desk in Hawaii as a blog to keep three triplet sisters connected when they lived apart and traveled on their own quickly became something else entirely. Even in the beginning our goal was to share, inspire and connect with others - it wasn't about anything else. Our love for travel and adventure is in our blood, and we know it's in yours too. We'd all rather be outside! This is a place where you and I can embrace all the things we love and to grow from strangers to friends. Eventually, over the years, we're becoming mothers and families as well and there's a lot more we want to share on that front.

We apologize for the confusion and thank you for putting up with the mess! We hope it's been worth it so far. It's a real breath of fresh air for us! :)

Little did I know this would be one of the last photos with my baby bump. I was 30 weeks pregnant and totally not ready to have my baby. A few days after this trip to Sun Valley I delivered baby #2!

There is so much to update you on and I'm sorry for my blog hiatus, but it was for good reason and I wouldn't take it back for anything. As you may know,  my baby girl came two months early and life has been a whirlwind ever since! I finally feel like I am starting to get the hang of things. After pre-term labor, natural delivery, lots of prayers, severe allergic reaction, 58 days in the NICU, and a season passed--my baby girl is home. Liv Cosette is home!

We are so excited to introduce Liv to this beautiful world! There is so much to see and so much to do and Liv is a true miracle and blessing in our lives. God is good.




Ever looked in the closet when you're about to embark on an outdoor adventure and wondered to your adventure-having self, "What should I wear?!" Admit it. We're girls. And girls like to look cute. And when we're doing awesome things and shredding outside and getting dirty, we still have a part of us that wants to look good while doing it...

That's where our outdoor style guide comes in!

1. Think LAYERS.
That's the thing about the outdoors... the weather is changeable. You need to be prepared for peeling or adding layers as the day goes on. I usually start with a light puffy in the morning and end up shedding layers throughout the day. It's nice to have an extra pair of socks on hand as well to keep your toes warm at night.

2. Go light.
Overpacking in the wild is never a good idea. I like to think of it this way, "what's in your pack is on your back." If you don't want to carry it, don't bring it.
Whether for a day trip or a multi-night backcountry trip, it's always great to have a day bag
Essentials only! If you're on the water, dry bags are a must.
3. It's all about the function.
Prioritize what you need. Don't bring stuff that you will only use once. Bring the gear that counts - like your pocket rocket backpacking stove, propane/butane, headlamp, Camelback, water filter and things that'll keep you moving once you're on the go. Depending on the type of trip you're taking, make sure you have your essentials with you.

Clothes/shoes wise, there's still lots of ways to be cute while also functional and all kinds of outdoors brands are making that easier and easier for us to do. You don't have to sacrifice good looks to do what you love :) We are always sure to bring a few good hats as well to keep our crazy hair covered!

4. Just have fun!
Packing can be very overwhelming and stressful. If you're anything like our Meggie, she can sit in a pile of clothes and gear and just lose her marbles not knowing where to start. Hopefully these quick steps will help you get beyond the stress and to the fun part - adventuring! We will be sharing more tips on specific types of trips and how to pack here shortly, so keep your eyes peeled!



Camping in Joshua Tree is so dreamy. There is something about the desert that is very ethereal and I like it. Chase and I came here to celebrate my (well…our) birthday. If you are into rock climbing and bouldering this would seriously be your heaven. For us, we just enjoy the camping experience and fun exploring and hiking it offers.

The best time to camp at Joshua Tree is in the winter and spring. Once June and July hit it gets super hot up there so probably isn't as comfortable. We went in May and the days were in the mid 70s with a slight breeze while the nights were cold enough for a heavy coat and beanies. We slept comfortably in our awesome Kelty tent and were grateful it had a rain fly to protect us from the wind.

One of my favorite parts of this weekend was waking up to delicious pancakes! We used two scoops of  plant based protein powder from Designer Protein to give us the energy we needed to get through the day. Feel free to find the recipe here. They truly were delicious. Happy camping!

Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you love! Please note, everybody's pregnancies are different. Some women can continue to lift weights and rock climb while they are pregnant, but other women are confined to bed rest and refrained from any heavy lifting. A good rule of thumb is if you did it before you were pregnant, you can likely continue doing it during pregnancy. It's not a good idea to start something new during pregnancy, like surfing or mountain biking.

There are always risks to doing physical activity while pregnant. You can trigger preterm labor or lose your balance with your new-found baby bump. This is why Doctors often times advice not to do certain things if it can prevent hurting your baby. In the end it is up to you and what you feel comfortable and safe doing. In my case, I always err on the side of caution since I have complicated pregnancies. You just never know what can happen!

Now that we got that out of the way, how does doing physical activity change when you're pregnant? Here are a few tips that helped me enjoy continue doing what I love while pregnant:

1. Wear comfortable shoes and prop your feet to prevent swelling.
2. Take breaks! You don't need to impress anyone when you've got a baby to worry about.
3. Modify your level of physical activity. For example, instead of running try a light jog or power walk. Instead of wading through deep rivers fish in a slow and shallow stream or stay on the shore. Try cross country skiing instead of backcountry skiing. You get the idea!
4. Drink lots of water! 'Nuff said!
5. Bring snacks. When I'm pregnant (and breastfeeding) I am always hungry. Having a little baggy of snacks on hand or protein bar is a good idea so you don't lose your energy quickly, because you will tire faster when you're pregnant than before.
6. Use the buddy system. Bring a friend with you, your husband, or a family member so you are not alone doing anything that might put you at risk of falling.

Motherhood is the most challenging and empowering thing I have ever done. We hope we can see all you mamas continue doing what you love and showing your kids what you're made of!



Destination: Vasquez Rocks / Activity: Hiking / Footwear: Teva sandals / Jacket: c/o WithoutWalls

You’ve probably already seen this spot just north of Los Angeles, since it's been in TV shows like Star TrekFriends, and Power Rangers. Formed by erosion 25 million years ago and more recent activity along the San Andreas Fault, Vasquez Rocks is made up of strange and other-worldly rock formations. 

These days, Vasquez Rocks not only plays an interesting role in entertainment, but makes for a great desert getaway just 45 minutes away from the city. There are several trails to get in good hiking time and always free parking. If you're really into earthquakes and geology, you should definitely plan a trip to Vasquez Rocks to hit up the Geology Trail. Starting on the Pacific Crest Trail, you'll eventually veer off and hike along tilted slabs of rock and prominent boulders for scrambling.

This summer our favorite go-to sandal is Tevas! We've been sporting Tevas since we were little girls, and would fight over which colors to get and who got what. I've been hiking in mine, and although I wouldn't say they're built for trails or traversing rocks they do the job on lighter hikes and your everyday adventure. Plus, they're so cute and they come in so many colors! What's not to love?!
