we were sitting around like a bunch of lazy lards at my mom and dad's house, when i came up with a genius idea. sometimes the post-holiday blues can be a bit overdramatic, and the absence of a christmas tree (dad was all too anxious to throw it to the curb) and the fact that our stockings once brimming with holiday goodies and our favorite candies were now just lame and limp empty socks, it was time for a fun-tervention.

it was low key enough for spontaneity with a baby and awesome enough that we actually got excited about it. the six of us threw our things together and hopped in the car and made our way up the mountain to our family cabin, and within a few hours we were sliding on our bums across the frozen lake and discovering weird old games from grandpa fly's closet. we snuggled in our sleeping bags and stayed up late talking about everything from why our hair has to be so curly and frizzy to how new moms manage to do a million things at once. the boys drowned out the sister chatter with the dinosaur-like video games while van just trumped around huffing and puffing. retreat success.
