Activity: Pearl Harbor Memorial // Location: Honolulu, Hawaii // Price: Free
December 7th, 1941. A day that we should never forget. Going to this memorial was so touching and I couldn't help but picture my cute Grandpa Fly running around in his all white sailor suit. Learning more about our nations history and how that day really was was eye opening. There was so much in the museums to learn that I had never read in a text book. Did you know children and adults alike had to wear gas masks for months after the attack? It was quite the site to see innocent children walking to school in gas masks. For a time locals weren't able to get into the ocean either, it was all blocked off by military men standing guard. Such a heart breaking time it must have been.
To enter it is free, you just need to get a ticket for a tour group at a certain time. Although, if you want to tour the submarine there is a fee. We did the U.S.S. Arizona tour which allowed us to look through two museums, watch a movie on Pearl Harbor, and take a ferry out to the U.S.S. Arizona memorial. It was definitely worth taking time to reflect on this tragic day. This is definitely a must do when visiting Oahu.
Looks really neat. This is one of the places I'd like to visit someday. Such an horrific event.
