Aloha 'Oe . . . Farewell to Thee
I've been in denial about the reality that is about to hit me here in 38 days. Because in 38 days my friends, Chase and I are moving from Hawaii to the mainland. Our time on "da aina" is coming to a close, as much as I don't want to accept it. I completed my bachelors degree here in April 2012, and Chase is graduating in December. So off to our next adventure where we can be closer to the family yet still on a coastline. San Diego, make me proud!
There are many days where I just sit on the beach while my husband surfs and I truly try to soak in the moment. I close my eyes and breath it all in hoping that it will never escape me. Hawaii truly is my favorite place on earth and I love it oh so much. It brings me so much joy and has inspired me in so many ways. There is definitely a reason they have the "Aloha Spirit" here. There is nothing like it. The people, the beaches, the slowness, the waves, everything.
Lastly, in Hawaii per tradition there is a song called Aloha 'Oe. It is sung every time loved ones leave the island and the lyrics, "until we meet again," bring comfort knowing that we will be back to visit if not live in the future (dreaming here). Oahu will forever hold a special place in my heart and be my favorite of the Hawaiian islands. This may be an Aloha for now, but not forever. I can promise you that. PS, please listen to that song at least three times for me :). It will make you happy. I promise.
xo,
Good luck with your move! I know it must be tough to leave paradise behind but you're pretty much going straight to another paradise!

DeleteI feel your pain Lisa! I have not lived in Hawaii yet but it is always in the back of my mind (dreaming ;)). We go there every year and each year it is harder to leave, I love the Aloha spirit and that song. I am sorry you have to leave! I have lived in Southern California my whole life and I can tell you San Diego will make you proud (another place I have always wanted to live), safe and happy moving! xo
