Right around November Hawaii decides to start raining a lot. One second it will be clear sunny skies and the next you're drenched by crazy downpour. If you ever decide to visit between the months of November and March be prepared for rain! On the bright side, starting in November are the surf contests. This is one of my favorite times of years. I explained all the gnitty gritty regarding the surf contests on the North Shore HERE.
The waves in the winter are so beautiful. The other day when my husband was out surfing I couldn't believe how clean and glassy they looked. I love days like this. That's what's so amazing about the ocean. It doesn't matter how many times you see it in it's varying conditions, it's always just as mind blowing and gorgeous. Although these beautiful waves bring in large crowds, it brings an awesome vibe to the North Shore. The lifeguards are busy, the waves are spotted with the pros, and the beaches are fuller than ever. Also the watermen here blow my mind. I can't imagine how tough it would be to be a surf photographer battling those waves for a good shot. And while we're at it, I was sitting just a few feet away from Kelly Slater at Pipe last night like it ain't no thang (hah). And a few weeks prior I went to an elementary school play and was a row behind Jack Johnson and his adorable kids and wife, and to the left of Kelly Slater and his girlfriend who does MIKOH swimwear, as well as a handful of other pros. Good times on the North Shore my friends. Come.
