The food in Puerto Rico is so good! Here are some of my favorite dishes...
grilled chicken and plantains
Plantains look like big bananas and can be served a variety of ways.
This is my personal favorite because they are served salty and taste like french fries.

steak and rice
Good ol' beans and rice with meat, yum!
steak and mofongo
Mofongo is a plantain based Puerto Rican dish also mixed with yuca to give it a starchy texture and sweet taste.
the Obama sammy
There is a cafeteria in San Juan where President Obama ate when he visited Puerto Rico.
Everybody was surprised when Obama cancelled a lunch appointment with important people,
and showed up in a local joint for a sammy. Now he has a sandwich named after him.

fresh coconut
I'm not a huge fan of the coconut, but it's cool to drink out of a bowling ball shaped object.
traditional hot sauce
This tasty hot sauce is both sweet and spicy with a mixture of peppers, garlic and vinegar.
strawberry smoothie
Fresh squeezed fruit makes the perfect refreshment for a beach day!
empanadas
A Spanish pastry with savory ingredients served baked or fried.
Shipwreck Bar and Grill
Shipwreck is a local restaurant in Rincon that we highly recommend you eating at if you visit Puerto Rico.
It is a little pricy, but they serve delicious fresh seafood every day.

wow i love all these pics megs, FANTASTIC and the food all looks so delicious. next time you travel take a cooking class. that is one of my goals. i want to take a cooking class ine very country i travel to, i would LOVE it. love you sis, thanks for this amazing post!

ReplyDeleteWe make fried plantains a lot, like we ate in Ecuador. They call them patacones. And the sweet ones that are soft are called maduro. Sooo yummy! Cool how lots of countries come up with such similar dishes and name them totally different things!
