When I was in Haiti this photo on Instagram generated some buzz! I had no idea it was something people would like, but I happen to do it when I'm traveling and want to look somewhat cute without a lot of effort. I bring along a lightweight scarf that (depending on weather) can double as a usual scarf or hair wrap. When it's really hot, I like to have my hair out of my face and this scarf (from Forever21) did the trick just right. I wear it in three ways, typically, and I'll teach you how to do it yourself if you're like me and all about double dipping!
1. The Headband
Safe. Easy. Classic. Just wrap the scarf behind your ears and tie it in the back at the nape of your neck. Sometimes I'll let my ears poke out, others I'll put it over half the ear depending on how my hair is behaving. I'll push it down on my forehead, pull out some bangs at the top, or just some fringe! Super simple, no fuss. I don't go too crazy. You can mix it up with a high bun, low pony, high pony, hair all down... whatever you're in the mood for!
2. The Braid
Now this is a game changer. I'm all about the sidebraid. Quick and easy and low-maintenance. But to add some pizazz I like to braid my headwrap with my hair! With the three pieces to the typical braid, I add the scarf. I use the scarf as one of my three pieces instead. It acts as my center piece to my braid, and stands alone in the weave. I start by wrapping the scarf as a headband and tying it loosely at the lower portion of my head. I then begin my braid and weave the scarf in. Let it hang loose at the end! You can also wrap a bit of scarf over the hair tie to hide the band. Party!
3. The Bun
I start by braiding my hair, just one simple braid down my back. I then twist it into a bun and secure it with a hair band. Then, I wrap my scarf around my head like a headband and with the excess scarf length I wrap it around my bun a couple times and tie it securely in a knot. I let the scarf do it's own thing, and don't worry about the rest. Now you have a cute braided bun but a fun accessory keeping it all in place! Not a bad idea.
