TASTY TUESDAY

11/6/12

Wanna eat America's BEST and FLUFFIEST sugar cookies?

When I visited Megs in Idaho, we spent some time in the kitchen.
We'd rather bake than cook. And we'd rather eat sweets than real food.
This recipe makes 4 dozen cookies! Cookies for days!

SUGAR COOKIES

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
5 1/2 cups flour

In mixer, cream butter and sugar, and then add eggs and vanilla.
Add sour cream. Combine salt, soda, and flour, and add to mixture.
Roll out on floured surface to about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick. Really.

Using a rolling pin, flatten out the individual balls of dough together into one piece.

With your hands, combine all of them together and mash it around. You're trying to mix the colors so it has a more tye-dye effect. The more you mix and roll, the better the colors look. We found that after each cookie cutter session, it just got better and better!

Meg and I used Halloween shapes because it was almost Halloween, and they turned out super cute. Our favs were the pumpkins and ghosts because they're bigger, duh. If you have leaf shape cookie cutters, that would be REALLY cute and perfect for Fall! We didn't have any, but you can adjust the colors/shapes for whatever holiday you want because that's why sugar cookies are cool.

Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes. These cookies bake quickly and when they come out, they'll look puffy like clouds. They don't toast on top or get brown at all, either. They're just thick and insanely good.

Check out how thick they are! And how AWESOME!

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

1/2 cup butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4-1/3 cup milk

In a mixing bowl, cream butter. Beat in sugar and vanilla until crumbly. Gradually add milk until frosting reaches desired consistency. Add desired food coloring. We didn't photograph them frosted because we wanted you to see the coloring. Whip it up cookie-by-cookie.

Happy baking! Join us on our #ttfallbucketlist and share your goodies!

    1. hmmmm... i am used to baking at low altitude (sea level) and when that happens we usually end up needing more DRY materials to compensate for humidity/etc... aka more flour, etc. i imagine with high altitude it'd be the exact opposite?
