Instead of our usual Freaky Friday today,
we thought we'd share a little on Meg's experience in an ancient city.
It's kinda creepy. Seems to fit, right?!
. . . . . . . . . .
On our way to Southern France, we stopped by the medieval walled city called Carcassonne. Carcassonne dates back to the Roman era. As we walked through the castle, I couldn't help but imagine a kingdom crawling with people who used bows and arrows ruled by a King and Queen wearing sparkly crowns. The outer walls and towers were built to prevent attack and each night the drawbridge went up and the gate went down to keep enemies out.
The city has been remodeled in many parts, and now is dotted with shops and cafes for locals and tourists. We were still able to find areas in the castle completely destroyed from years of existence that now home trash and pigeons. It was fun to wander around and play pretend. In the summer this place is packed with tourists, but in the winter we were the only ones there and nothing was open. Maybe because of the cold, but this castle is definitely worth exploring.
You need to get the game Carcassonne! Its like the city and its super fun! You build lands and take them over! Its really fun! Great pictures!

ReplyDeleteI came here with my grade 10 Europe group. I love the story behind the castle - of the people defending themselves by throwing pigs over the wall or something ridiculous like that? I don't know, I just remember that they had really yummy food at a restaurant there, which, I guess, was closed because it's winter.
ReplyDeleteCool place!! Too bad things were shut down. Aren't they used to the cold by now? Bummer. Another reason for us all to go to Europe when it's warm!!
